Going Green
Let’s talk about your workplace. What do you think about the smell – clean, fresh, air floats freely to your lungs? Or is it stuffy, perhaps your employees have lost some of their vitality? If the latter, then you obviously need to do some cleaning and freshing up. But don’t hurry to those chemically based, fresh-smelling but harmful cleaners. For best results, cleaner and better smelling environment, you should turn your sight to the green cleaning products. That’s what a great many people have been doing recently and soon this will be a practice as common as recycling and switching to low-energy light bulbs.
What is Green Cleaning? Well, yes, the obvious concept is swapping traditional chemical cleaners for products that meet UK green standards. But that’s not all – like most things, technique also counts.
One of the objectives for green cleaning products is to expand the lifespan of things like floor coverings. Make sure your cleaner uses an ergonomically designed vacuum cleaner and you could give the carpets, rugs and flooring a few more years in service.
Not too difficult, right? So what else can be done?
Here are a few solutions:
- Check the ventilation – the windows should be able to open, the ventilation grills should work and the air conditioning should be maintained and serviced as per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Eating in the work area is not a good idea because it results crumbs in keyboards or food particles in public areas and, naturally, this doesn’t contribute to a healthy environment. Design a special place for your employees to eat.
- And how about replacing cleaners’ traditional mops and dusters with ergonomically designed micro fibre alternatives in order to capture more dust?
- Don’t forget mats – place them at entry points and thus reduce the dirt, being brought in.
The result of green cleaning should be deeply cleaned, fresh-smelling environment. And what does clean smell like? Well, it doesn’t. It shouldn’t have any odour, but just smell natural and fresh and this is achieved through green cleaning products.
Applying green cleaning tactics in your office will contribute to a healthier environment, create a sense of wellbeing for your employees and will speak volumes for your environmental policy.
